Highways and Byways – a Community of Service continues the work of the Missionary Sisters of Service who are an Australian congregation founded by Father John Wallis in 1944. It supports people and communities experiencing hardship and disadvantage.
We are inspired by a world which demonstrates compassion, justice and love in equal measure to all.
We are a national organisation based in Melbourne, with volunteer branches in Hobart, Whyalla, Melbourne and Toowoomba. We undertake an annual Small Grants Program, a series of inspiring speaker events, and other activities to strengthen relationships and build community.
The organisation is named after the motto of the Missionary Sisters of Service: Into the Highways and Byways, an imperative to go out to people wherever they are.
The Highways and Byways Community of Service is a new development incorporating the vision and work of the John Wallis Foundation.
